If you had the patience to read through this site, then congratulations, hopefully you found some useful guidance and information. If it was all a little too wordy however, here's the quick and dirty bottom line...

Electricians in the UK are not licenced and do not have to be a member of any overseeing scheme to undertake work. It is possible to be entirely independent and legitimate so long as proof of qualifications and insurance can be provided upon request.

If your electrician is flashing a logo of some kind to gain your confidence, you'd better get busy checking it's on the level. If it's not, then drop 'em fast and before handing over any money. The logos to look for and the links to click are all provided for you here, so it's dead easy to look up before you pay up.

Contractors who are confirmed as being associated with the more trusted third-parties such as Which? and TrustMark (and certainly not the likes of Checkatrade, MyBuilder, Trust-a-trader et.al.) stand a better chance of not leaving you out of pocket and in the dark. Which? and TrustMark offer Alternative Dispute Resolution which can help if your relationship with your contractor breaks down.

There's no logo to truly guarantee you're going to get quality workmanship. A Competent Persons Scheme operator will have plenty of bad people on their books, and their upfront promises of reliability and warranty often amount to little in action when push comes to shove. These outfits, being as they are, private and for-profit entities, place them in no rush to throw money at making good the mess one of their members made of your electrical installation... and in no hurry to kick a paying member off their books.

Rogue traders are rarely punished. Only those who pay for accreditation and strive to maintain it are being policed, with that policing often seen to turn a blind eye to the bigger firms with deeper pockets and lower standards whilst stamping on smaller operators already trying to work diligently.

INEAC is nothing more than a logo that shows an electrician is literally independent of any established Competent Person Scheme or is an 'associate' to INAEC because they cannot escape belonging to a CPS. Showing the logo is no guarantee of quality, nor does it pretend to be. Follow the guidance on this very site to undertake your own due diligence when appointing an electrical contractor.
